Lucius Spurius Pomponianus: In the House
Lūcius Spurius Pomponiānus: In the House
Grumio rushed out from the kitchen. Clemens sees Grumio.
Clemens: "Wow! You are wearing a splendid toga!"
Grumio: "Do you like it?"
Clemens: "I like it! Where are you hurrying to, Grumio?"
Grumio: "I’m heading to the amphitheater. Afer is waiting for the supporters."
Clemens: "Are you supporting Afer?" Caecilius supports Holconius."
Grumio: "Afer promised the supporters five denarii. Holconius only promised the supporters two denarii."
"I support Afer because he is a generous man."
Clemens: "But you are a slave. You are not a citizen of Pompeii. Afer promised money to the citizens of Pompeii."
Grumio: "Clemens, today I am not Grumio. Today I am Lūcius Spurius Pomponiānus!"
Clemens: "Lūcius Spurius Pomponiānus! You are the most deceitful cook!"
Grumio: "Not at all! Today I am a baker from Pompeii. Today we bakers are gathering at the amphitheater. We are leading Afer to the forum, where the citizens are waiting for speeches. I am hurrying to the amphitheater. Will you come with me?"
Clemens: "I will come with you. I do not support Afer. I do not want denarii, but I am worried about you. You are undertaking a dangerous matter."
