The Miser
The Greedy Man
Once upon a time, two thieves were hurrying to the house. In the house lived a merchant. The merchant was an old and greedy man. The greedy man had much money. After the thieves entered the house, they looked around the atrium. “The greedy man,” said one thief, “is alone. The greedy man does not have a slave.” Then the thieves entered the study. The greedy man shouted and fought fiercely, but the thieves easily overcame the old man. “Where is the money, old man?” asked the thief. “A faithful slave is guarding the money in the bedroom,” said the old man. “You do not have a faithful slave because you are greedy,” shouted the thief. Then the thieves headed for the bedroom. “I see the money,” said the thief. The thieves entered the room where the money was, and they looked at the money intently. But alas! A huge snake was lying on the money. The thieves feared the snake and quickly hurried out of the house. In the house, the greedy man was laughing and praising the snake. “You are the best servant. You never sleep. You always guard my money.”
