The Baths
The Baths
The citizens of Pompeii had three baths. Every day, the citizens went to the baths. The servants walked behind their masters, carrying oil and strigils. After entering the baths, the citizens and servants saw athletes and boxers. The athletes were running and jumping around the exercise area. The servants held tunics for the athletes. Other servants were holding balls for the boxers. The boxers were hitting the balls vigorously.
The citizens were also exercising in the exercise area, and many were throwing discs. The servants were looking for discs for the citizens. After finding the discs, the servants returned to the citizens. Then the servants handed the discs to the citizens. After exercising, the citizens entered the changing room, where everyone deposited their togas, and then they entered the warm room. The citizens sat for a little while in the warm room and then went to the hot room.
In the hot room, there were many chairs. There the masters sat and chatted. The servants were diligently massaging their masters. The baths greatly delighted the people of Pompeii.
